A Sporting Court Needs More Than a Flat Asphalt Surface
Sports courts require careful pavement preparation to provide a consistent playing area. Uneven surfaces can affect ball movement and create areas where water collects. Ground conditions, drainage and accurate surface levels all influence how a court performs over time.
A One Asphalt undertakes asphalt sporting court construction and resurfacing across Moreton Bay, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. With over 30 years of experience in earthworks and asphalt paving, we prepare and construct asphalt pavements for schools, sporting clubs, community facilities and recreational areas.
Our work includes excavation, road base construction, drainage, asphalt surfacing and repairs to existing pavements. Where a court requires specialist coloured coatings or line marking, these finishes need to be considered as part of the overall project.
New Asphalt Sports Court Construction
A One Asphalt undertakes asphalt paving for new sporting courts, including tennis, netball, basketball and multi-purpose recreational areas. The pavement must provide an even, stable surface suited to the intended sport and any finishing treatment.
Construction can involve excavation, preparing the underlying ground, installing and compacting road base, establishing drainage and laying hot mix asphalt.
Sports courts need accurate surface levels, but they also require sufficient fall to allow rainwater to drain away. The pavement preparation and asphalt finish need to account for both requirements.
Where a specialist acrylic playing surface is planned, the asphalt base must also be suitable for the coating system being applied.
Sports Court Resurfacing & Asphalt Repairs
Existing asphalt sports courts can develop cracks, uneven sections, potholes and areas where water collects. These problems can affect how the court is used and may need attention before any new playing surface or coating is applied.
A One Asphalt undertakes asphalt resurfacing and pavement repairs for existing sporting courts and recreational areas. Work can include repairing damaged sections, correcting pavement levels and placing new asphalt where the existing base is suitable.
Where the supporting pavement has deteriorated, damaged sections may require excavation and road base reconstruction before resurfacing.
An existing court does not always need complete replacement. The appropriate work depends on the condition of the asphalt, supporting base, drainage and proposed finished surface.
Planning a New Sporting Court or Upgrading an Existing One?
Whether you’re preparing a new court for a school, upgrading a community sporting facility or dealing with a deteriorating playing surface, the condition of the pavement matters.
New construction and resurfacing involve different preparation requirements, particularly where the finished court needs specialist coatings or line marking.
Tell Brett where the court is located, what sport it will be used for and whether you’re starting with an existing surface. We’ll discuss the asphalt work involved and the next steps towards a quote.
Our Sports Court Construction Process
1. Site Assessment & Quote
We discuss the proposed court, its intended use, existing ground or pavement conditions and any available plans. Drainage, site access and the required finished surface help establish the scope of work.
2. Earthworks & Base Preparation
Where required, the site is excavated and graded before road base material is placed and compacted. Preparation establishes the supporting pavement, surface levels and drainage required for the court.
3. Asphalt Laying & Compaction
Hot mix asphalt is placed and compacted over the prepared base. Particular attention is given to surface levels and consistency, especially where the asphalt will receive a specialist court coating.
4. Final Checks & Completion
The asphalt surface is checked for levels, drainage and areas requiring attention. Where specialist coatings or line marking form part of the wider project, the asphalt must be suitable for those next stages.
